Grand Bahama Airport Company, Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), Bahamas Business Unit, recently signed a contract with local contractor, SRA Construction for a 5,000 sq. ft. extension to the Domestic Terminal at Grand Bahama International Airport. Phil Carey, Director of the Grand Bahama Airport Company, said the expansion of the terminal will provide needed capacity for an increase in passengers resulting from domestic and non-U.S. international flights. 'The expansion will include additional check-in counters, seating for up to 600 passengers, security processing, a smoking lounge, a food and beverage area, male and female handicap-equipped bathrooms, a new baggage claim belt, a covered walkway on the drop off and ramp sides, automatic doors, office areas, and an upgraded check-in area,' said Mr. Carey. The work is expected to be completed by March of 2009.
