Freeport Container Port Partners With Bartlett Hill Primary School
Grand Bahama Island - September 18th, 2012. The Freeport Container Port (FCP), Freeport Harbour Company (FHC) and the Grand Bahama Airport Company (GBAC) continues to demonstrate its commitment to helping cultivate a world-class workforce on the island of Grand Bahama. Its most recent investment in this regard was made on Monday, 17th September at the Bartlette Hill Primary School in Eight Mile Rock. During a special Assembly Miss Malvese Capron, Director of Human Resources for FCP, FHC, GBAC and Grand Lucayan and her team made special presentations to Students, Teachers and Administrators at the school.
Ms. Capron along with Employee Relations Manager, Mrs. Lisa Gibson and HR Clerk, Miss Shaniqua Marshall presented school bags containing school supplies to a number of students. In addition, they provided uniforms to several Bartlette Hill Primary School athletes. The invaders, as they are called, were elated to receive the uniforms and were challenged by Miss Capron to give their best effort this coming school year and to excel. She took the opportunity to underscore Hutchison Port Holdings’ (HPH) commitment to support community initiatives in general and educational development in particular.
She pointed out that this contribution is a part of HPH global “Dock School Programme.” This international programme was designed to ensure that children in the communities where the company had ports, gained the skills they need to achieve their full potential and improve their employment prospects. The Dock programme began at Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) in 1992 and has grown to include more than 20 Dock Schools around the globe. The programme was born out of the view that education is the basis for sustainable development.
Principal of the Barlette Hill Primary School, Mrs. Jacqueline Pinder indicated that they are indeed very appreciative of this latest contribution by FCP, FHC and GBAC. Pinder noted, “I feel fantastic, because they could have chosen any of the schools…we feel highly blessed and favored.”
The principal went on to state that the donation comes as a result of the school being contacted some time back by the company and told to submit areas in which help was needed. In the past the company assisted in refurbishing the Principal’s office, Teachers lounge and Tuck Shop. They also donated badly needed benches for the students. Mrs. Pinder, much like company officials, expects that this partnership will last for many years to come.
She further expressed thanks to FCP, FHC, GBAC for donating to students the books, Still Standing and Follow Your Dreams, written by Michael Pintard, prominent Author, Motivational Speaker who made a special guest appearance at the school’s assembly to read from both books while addressing students on the importance of discipline, honesty and reading. “Education can be your ticket to take you around the world” according to Pintard, the CEO of Scribes Edutainment Ltd.
