Hutchison Port Holdings' employee councils host Pre-Easter Fish Fry
Wednesday, April 1st, 2015, Freeport, Grand Bahama – In a move to foster a greater bond between its members, the employee councils for Freeport Container Port (FCP), Freeport Harbour Company (FHC) and Grand Bahama Airport Company (GBAC) hosted a Fish Fry at FCP Cafeteria on Friday.
The objective of the employee councils is to function as an advisory group to the administration of FCP, FHC and GBAC and to the staff it represents by providing an operational framework for discussions and communication of issues, policies and activities relating to the staff. Those issues include health and safety matters, performance and productivity concerns, social events, welfare of staff, development of training programs and working conditions.
The Fish Fry fundraiser was the first of its kind under the Employee Councils for all 3 Business Units and the brainchild of Douglas Miller, Chairman of the Employee Council for Freeport Harbour, FHC.“We have three companies and we want to bring everyone together to foster relationship so that when we see each other off the job we would know that we are all one family. So at the end of the day all of us are employees from HPH Bahamas,” Miller explained.
The pre-Easter event was held between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Friday and allowed employees to fellowship with one another just before the Easter holiday.
“We prepared 500 dinners and we picked this time, a week before Good Friday, because usually a lot of the employees travel during the Easter; so we thought this was a good way to start the Easter season off right,” said Miller.
Carolyn Laing, Chairman of the Employee Council for Grand Bahama Airport Company said while each of the councils have hosted their own social gatherings in the past, it is the first time the three Employee Councils have come together for one cause” she said.
Romardo Cash, chairman of the Employee Council at Freeport Container Port noted that the Fish Fry is intended to be an annual event as the ultimate goal is to reach out to and show the employees that the councils are there for them and will do what is needed to ensure the bonding process.
The money derived from the Fish Fry is earmarked for the employee council fund for upcoming employee council projects and initiatives, not only throughout the business, but also our local community.
“We continue to support the efforts of our employee councils. Our employees make an invaluable contribution and are a part of one team, the Hutchison Port Holding‘s Bahamas Business Unit," said Godfrey Smith, CEO of FCP, FHC and GBAC.
